When you use your bread machine to mix up the dough, this yeast bread is a cinch to make.
1-1/2 cups buttermilk, room temperature 1/2 cup Burleson's Clover Honey 1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon almond extract 2 large eggs, beaten 5 cups bread flour 1 package or 2-1/4 teaspoons active dry or instant yeast 1/2 cup slivered almonds, toasted*
Measure carefully and place all ingredients except almonds in bread-machine container in order recommended by bread machine manufacturer. Place container inside machine. Select dough/pasta cycle. Press start. When cycle indicates additional ingredients can be added, add almonds. Let machine complete cycle; remove dough from container. Divide dough into six balls; cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Shape each ball into an 8-inch rope. Place 3 ropes side by side on each of 2 greased baking sheets; braid, pressing ends to seal. Cover; let rise 30 to 45 minutes or until nearly double in size. If desired, beat 1 egg; brush over tops of loaves. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown. Makes 2 medium loaves (8 servings each loaf). Serve with Cremed Honey Butter.
Cremed Honey Butter Place 1/2 cup Burleson's Honey Spread and 1/2 cup (1 stick) softened butter or margarine in blender container. Cover; blend until well combined.
*To toast almonds, place almonds in microwave-safe dish. Microwave on High for 4 minutes, stirring once. Cool.
